test(workflows): harden the workflow security invariants - #627
U0's harness, label manifest and security invariants already landed on main with #638's squash merge. This PR now carries only the hardening Greptile and CodeRabbit asked for in .github/tests/security-invariants.test.mjs:
Untrusted contexts are matched in dot and bracket form (github.event.pull_request.title, ['title'], ["title"]).
The upstream guard must gate the whole if:. The check parses the condition, tracking parentheses and quoted strings, and rejects guard || x, (guard || x) && y, and an if: | value with a trailing newline, which actionlint treats as always true.
Under pull_request_target, PR-head retrieval in run, with.script or with.ref fails the test (gh pr checkout, refs/pull/, git fetch of head.sha, head.ref or head_ref).
Testing: node --test '.github/tests/**/*.test.mjs' gives 47 pass, 0 fail, and every new rule has a fixture that goes red without it. The stricter rules pass over every workflow on main and in #641, #642 and #643. actionlint -shellcheck= -pyflakes= is clean.

Tests
Expanded security checks to detect pull request head references in workflow checkout and fetch configurations, including alternate formatting and continued command lines.
Added validation that upstream-repository safeguards apply to the entire job condition, with coverage for invalid expressions and safe non-matching cases.
The workflow security test suite now checks additional pull-request-head checkout paths, normalizes untrusted-context matching, and validates that upstream-repository guards control job conditions.

Summary
Checkout paths and untrusted contexts .github/tests/security-invariants.test.mjs
Adds normalized matching for untrusted contexts and pull-request-head checkout paths. Fixtures cover command and ref-based paths, continued commands, and non-matching cases.
Adds condition parsing that accepts the upstream guard alone or as a top-level && operand. Fixtures cover invalid guard placement and unbalanced expressions.
dsx-ai-factory/topograph#642: Adds a pull_request_target workflow whose security patterns are covered by these checks.
dsx-ai-factory/topograph#604: Adds a write-permission pull_request_target workflow that uses the upstream guard checked here.
dsx-ai-factory/topograph#643: Adds guarded scheduled jobs with write permissions, which relate to the upstream-guard condition checks.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review e002c
The remaining gaps are in workflow checks rather than a currently active privileged workflow. Merge is reasonable with owner awareness, but the label check and PR-head detection should be completed before relying on them for future workflow changes.

Review on dsx-ai-factory#627 found three ways a workflow passes the invariants while
doing what they forbid: bracket access such as
github.event.pull_request['title'] escapes the untrusted-text check, an
if: of `guard || true` passes the guarded-jobs check but still runs in
forks, and a pull_request_target step can fetch the PR head from run:,
script: or with.ref without naming actions/checkout.
The rules become functions over one workflow, unchanged, so these
fixtures can run them; the fixtures fail until the rules are fixed.

Close the PR-head detection gaps in the pull_request_target checkout invariant.
The rule misses these forms of PR-head checkout:
git fetch origin pull/7/head:pr and git fetch origin pull/$PR_NUMBER/head pass. Git resolves the abbreviated pull/<n>/head source to refs/pull/<n>/head, but the rule checks only for refs/pull/ and pull/${{.
github.event.pull_request.merge_commit_sha is not in HEAD_REFERENCES. A git fetch line or a with.ref that uses it passes.
A with.ref such as refs/pull/${{ github.event.pull_request.number }}/merge passes. The with.ref check tests only the text inside ${{ }} against HEAD_REFERENCES. It never applies PR_HEAD_FETCHES to the literal text.
No workflow in this PR declares pull_request_target yet, so these gaps affect future workflows. The invariant does not currently catch them.

Tracked for a follow-up PR together with the other invariant gaps the reviews found (more untrusted contexts, the harness LITERAL regex): pull/N/head fetches, merge_commit_sha, and a literal refs/pull/ in with.ref. It opens once this PR merges.

The untrusted-text check now rewrites ['x'] and ["x"] as .x before
matching, so bracket access to a contributor-controlled context is
caught in any letter case.
The guarded-jobs check now passes a job only when the upstream guard
gates its whole if:, alone or as one operand of a top-level &&. A small
splitter tracks parentheses and quoted literals, so `guard || true`
fails while assign.yaml's `guard && (a || b)` still passes.
In pull_request_target workflows the checkout rule also fails a run: or
script: line with gh pr checkout, refs/pull/ or pull/${{, a line that
pairs git fetch with head.sha, head.ref or head_ref, and a with.ref
expression naming one of those. git fetch is paired per line so a
script that only prints fix-up instructions is not flagged.

The guarded-jobs rule strips the first three and last two characters of
any condition that starts with ${{ and ends with }}, after trimming. So
`${{ true }} && <guard> && ${{ true }}`, the `${{ <guard> }}\n` that
`if: |` yields, and ` ${{ <guard> }}` all pass, yet GitHub reads each one
as a string template, which is truthy, and runs the job in forks.
actionlint reports all three as always true (if-cond).
These rows fail against the current rule. A row with }} inside a string
literal pins the case the stricter rule must still accept.
Signed-off-by: Carlos Eduardo Arango Gutierrez <eduardoa@nvidia.com>
GitHub evaluates an if: as an expression only when the whole value,
untrimmed, is a single ${{ }}. Any text around it, including the newline
`if: |` leaves at the end, turns the value into a string template, which
is truthy, so the job runs in forks. The rule stripped three leading and
two trailing characters after trimming, so it accepted those forms.
A condition that contains ${{ now passes only when it opens the value,
holds no second ${{, and the first }} outside a string literal is its last
two characters; every other value with ${{ fails. A condition without ${{
is checked as before, with surrounding whitespace ignored.
