Latest package in nixpkgs-unstable fails to authenticate with NixOS provisioned PostgreSQL

Since this version bump NixOS/nixpkgs#541979 my previously working atticd setup no longer works, failing with a Postgres authentication error. These are the relevant bits of the configuration.

    services.postgresql = {
      enable = true;
      ensureUsers = [
        {
          name = "atticd";
          ensureDBOwnership = true;
        }
      ];
      ensureDatabases = [ "atticd" ];
    };

    services.atticd = {
      enable = true;
      package = pkgs.attic-server;
      settings = {
        database = {
          url = "postgres://atticd/atticd?host=/run/postgresql";
        };
      };
    };

The error I was seeing is this:

atticd[471429]: Error: Database error: Connection Error: error returned from database: Peer authentication failed for user "anonymous" at line 334: error returned from database: Peer authentication failed for user "anonymous" at line 334
