I see algorithms everywhere. The same ideas behind robot navigation appear in piano fingering, football prediction, memory retrieval, and even everyday decisions. Different problems often turn out to be the same pattern wearing different masks.
Most of my projects start when I notice one of those patterns and decide to build something around it—an AI memory system, underwater robot software, a neighborhood map, or whatever the pattern happens to lead to next.
