Purpose

Since thunder-id/thunderid#6047, a ThunderID group accepts a member only when the group's organization unit (OU) owns it or it is shared with that OU. Anything else is refused with GRP-1019. GroupMembers always listed users and agents from the whole deployment, so admins could pick members the server would refuse.

This PR adds an optional ouId to GroupMembers. When it is set, the users and agents offered for adding come only from that OU. When it is not set, nothing changes.

Approach

  • GroupMembers widget (group_members.dart)
    • New optional ouId parameter.
    • When ouId is set, the widget builds ManagementFilter.equality('ouId', ouId) and passes it to the users and agents candidate queries. The server does the filtering, so the existing page limit of 100 applies to the OU's members, not to the whole deployment.
    • The OU-scoped lists return what the server accepts: users the OU owns plus those shared with it, and agents the OU owns (agents can't be shared).
    • An ouId that makes no filter, such as a blank one, lists no candidates rather than every OU's.
    • didUpdateWidget now also rebinds when ouId changes. The new queries start with no data, so candidates from the previous OU are never offered while the new OU's list loads, or if loading it fails.
    • The group's members list is unchanged. usersQuery and agentsQuery already accept filter, so no client or state changes are needed.
  • Playground (admin_stories.dart)
    • Adds an ouId control to the GroupMembers story and includes it in the generated code snippet.

This follows the same pattern as #59 for RoleAssignments.

No breaking changes. The new parameter is optional and defaults to the current behaviour.

Usage:

GroupMembers(groupId: group.id, ouId: group.ouId, editable: true)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Group member candidate lists can now be filtered by organization unit, helping you find users and agents associated with a specific unit.
    • Changing the selected organization unit refreshes the candidate lists. If the supplied value is blank or invalid, no candidates are shown rather than listing candidates across all units.

The new OU limit may not actually restrict or find the right users and agents, depending on how the backend handles the filter. Changing the OU also briefly blanks the existing members list and drops any in-progress add or remove state. Resolve both before merging.

🔀 Cross-SDK feature parity, ports raised

This pull request is labelled parity/prs-raised, so the capability it introduces is expected in the other ThunderID SDKs as well.

Ports (DO NOT EDIT)

  • thunder-id/javascript-sdks, JavaScript (React, Vue, Nuxt, Next.js, Express, React Router, TanStack Router, Browser, Node) => #146
  • thunder-id/ios-sdks, iOS => #40
  • thunder-id/android-sdks, Android => #48

3 of 3 sibling SDKs accounted for.

Every sibling SDK is accounted for.

The contract is in the SDK development specification.

L251: ThunderID, an 【136†LF Decentralized Trust†www.lfdecentralizedtrust.org】 project, is a lightweight, open-source IAM stack built to secure access for humans, AI agents, and machines.
L252:
L253: Designed for the agentic era, ThunderID provides a developer-first IAM stack and supporting tools for securing applications, APIs, services, and agent-driven workflows. It works across traditional and decentralized identity ecosystems, with post-quantum-ready security built in from the start.
L254: Core design goals of ThunderID include:
L255: * Agent-native identity: Manage AI agents as first-class identities with delegated authority, consent-aware access, traceability, and support for issuing verifiable credentials to agents. ThunderID also aims to expose IAM capabilities through interfaces that agents can use safely and programmatically.
L256: * Post-quantum-safe by design: Build on a crypto-agile foundation where algorithms, key types, signing methods, and token protection mechanisms can evolve over time, including support for post-quantum-safe algorithms and hybrid transition approaches across key management, credential issuance, assertions, and secure service-to-service communication.
L257: * Decentralized identity: Bridge the adoption gap for relying parties by making it practical for service providers to consume, verify, and trust decentralized identity in real-world applications, including DIDs, verifiable credentials, digital wallets, trust registries, and issuer-verifier-holder interaction models.
L258: * Lightweight runtime with GitOps support: Provide a lightweight, containerized runtime that can run across on-premises and cloud environments, with declarative identity flows, policies, and configuration suitable for automation, versioning, and GitOps practices.

Use the search bar at the top of the Users list to filter users by name or email.

# Manage Users

A user in ThunderID represents an account that can authenticate with your applications. Each user has:

  * A unique ID generated by ThunderID on account creation.
  * A user type (for example, `customer` or `employee`) that determines the profile attributes, validation rules, and registration settings for that user.
  * A set of attributes that match the schema defined by their user type.
  * An organization unit that defines the user's place in the organizational hierarchy.

## Users and Organization Units

Every user belongs to an Organization Unit (OU) and has a user type. These two work together:

  * The user type defines what the user looks like. Their attributes, constraints, and registration rules.
  * The organization unit defines where the user belongs in the organizational hierarchy.

Each user type belongs to a specific OU. A user of that type can only be created under that OU or one of its descendants.

See Organization Units for more information on how OUs structure your users and User Types for how user types define attribute schemas and registration settings.

###

ThunderID is a lightweight, open-source IAM stack built to secure access for humans, AI agents, and machines.

Designed for the agentic era, ThunderID provides a developer-first IAM stack and supporting tools for securing applications, APIs, services, and agent-driven workflows. It works across traditional and decentralized identity ecosystems, with post-quantum-ready security built in from the start.

Core design goals of ThunderID include:

  * Agent-native identity: Manage AI agents as first-class identities with delegated authority, consent-aware access, traceability, and support for issuing verifiable credentials to agents. ThunderID also aims to expose IAM capabilities through interfaces that agents can use safely and programmatically.
  * Post-quantum-safe by design: Build on a crypto-agile foundation where algorithms, key types, signing methods, and token protection mechanisms can evolve over time, including support for post-quantum-safe algorithms and hybrid transition approaches across key management, credential issuance, assertions, and secure service-to-service communication.
  * Decentralized identity: Bridge the adoption gap for relying parties by making it practical for service providers to consume, verify, and trust decentralized identity in real-world applications, including DIDs, verifiable credentials, digital wallets, trust registries, and issuer-verifier-holder interaction models.
  * Lightweight runtime with GitOps support: Provide a lightweight, containerized runtime that can run across on-premises and cloud environments, with declarative identity flows, policies, and configuration suitable for automation, versioning, and GitOps practices.

Manage Organization Units | ThunderID

<location>https://thunderid.dev/docs/next/guides/organization-units/manage-organization-units/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search0 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 2 weeks ago; ThunderID ships with two default organization units, each with a predefined user type. ... `GET /organization-units/{id}/ous` | List child organization units by parent ID ... * attribute: the OU field to filter on. ... filter=name%20eq%20%22Engineering%22" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`
Append a `filter` query parameter to narrow results.

### Supported Endpoints

Filtering applies to the following list endpoints:

Endpoint | Description
--- | ---
`GET /organization-units` | List all root-level organization units
`GET /organization-units/{id}/ous` | List child organization units by parent ID
`GET /organization-units/tree/{path}/ous` | List child organization units by hierarchical path

### Filter Expression Syntax

A filter expression can contain one or more conditions joined by `AND` or `OR`:

bash

`attribute operator "value" [AND|OR attribute operator "value" ...]`

  * attribute: the OU field to filter on.
  * operator: the comparison operator (`eq`, `gt`, or `lt`).
  * value: the value to compare against. Enclose string values in double quotes.
  * AND / OR: logical connectors between conditions. `AND` has higher precedence than `OR`, matching standard SQL behaviour.

### Supported Operators

Operator | Meaning
--- | ---
`eq` | Equals (case-insensitive for text attributes)
`gt` | Greater than
`lt` | Less than

### Filterable Attributes

Attribute | Type | Notes
--- | --- | ---
`name` | text | Case-insensitive equality
`handle` | text | Case-insensitive equality
`description` | text | Case-insensitive equality
`createdAt` | timestamp | Compared lexicographically; use ISO 8601 format
`updatedAt` | timestamp | Compared lexicographically; use ISO 8601 format

### Filter Examples

Filter by exact name:

bash

    `curl -kL "https://localhost:8090/organization-units?filter=name%20eq%20%22Engineering%22" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`

Filter with AND, both conditions must match:

bash

    `curl -kL "https://localhost:8090/organization-units?filter=name%20eq%20%22Engineering%22%20AND%20handle%20eq%20%22engineering%22" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`

Filter with OR, either condition may match:

bash

    `curl -kL "https://localhost:8090/organization-units?filter=name%20eq%20%22Engineering%22%20OR%20name%20eq%20%22Sales%22" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`

Filter children by timestamp range:

bash

    `curl -kL "https://localhost:8090/organization-units/<parent-id>/ous?filter=createdAt%20gt%20%222024-01-01T00:00:00Z%22" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`

Combine filter with pagination:

bash

    `curl -kL "https://localhost:8090/organization-units?filter=name%20eq%20%22Engineering%22&limit=10&offset=0" \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access-token>'`

### Filter Error Responses

Error Code | HTTP Status | Cause
--- | --- | ---
`OU-1014` | 400 | The filter expression is malformed, uses an unsupported connector, or references an unsupported attribute
`OU-1013` | 400 | The result count exceeds the limit supported in the current store configuration

Use an OU-scoping mechanism supported by the server.

GroupMembers sends ouId as a generic filter to both candidate list queries. At server revision 728793f, generic list filters target the ATTRIBUTES column. Actual OU filtering uses a separate OU_ID IN (...) clause. Therefore, valid users or agents can be excluded, or an unrelated ouId attribute can match.

Use an endpoint or server filter that scopes by the actual OU before pagination. Test users and agents in two OUs against the supported server versions.

Replace the generic `ManagementFilter.equality('ouId', ouId)` scope in
`GroupMembers` with a server-supported mechanism that filters users and agents
by their actual OU before pagination; verify candidates from two OUs against the
supported server versions.

The ouId filter is handled specially by the server, not as an attribute filter. Since thunder-id/thunderid@92509e7 (users) and @ecbf179 (agents), GetUserList/GetAgentList take it out with filter.SplitOUIDFilter and list the units owned by or shared into that unit, with server-side paging. 728793f comes before both commits. RoleAssignments (#59) uses the same filter.
