[BUG] GIF export doesn't enforce or warn about the "under 10s" limit its own UI advertises #1774

Closed as not planned

Description

@magic-peach

Bug description
FormatSelector's GIF option description literally says "Animated image — keep clips under 10s". But useVideoEditor.ts:214-223's updateRecipe only forces keepAudio = false when format is GIF — trim duration is never clamped or validated against this stated limit.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Upload a video longer than 10 seconds
  2. Select GIF as the export format
  3. Leave the trim range at, e.g., 45 seconds
  4. Export — nothing stops you or warns you before a potentially huge/slow GIF gets generated

Expected behavior
Either clamp the trim range when GIF is selected, or show an active warning (not just passive description text) when the selected range exceeds the advertised limit.

Actual behavior
No enforcement at all; the UI copy makes a promise the app doesn't keep.

Video format (if relevant)
Export preset: GIF, any input video >10s.

    Architecture notes

    Reframe is a static Next.js app with output: "export". Key points:

    • All video processing uses FFmpeg.wasm (client-side, no server)
    • headers() in next.config.ts won't work — use vercel.json instead
    • not-found.tsx requires public/404.html + vercel.json routes config
