[GIT-9] Gate copy-paste duplication with jscpd - #10
Conversation
Nothing in the fleet measured duplicated code. This adds .jscpd.json and a CI job that fails when duplication crosses the threshold. The repo is at 0.96% today, so the gate lands at full strength with no cleanup and no allowance for existing duplication.
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughAdds jscpd configuration and a GitHub Actions workflow. The workflow checks duplication on pull requests and pushes to ChangesDuplication gate
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The PR adds a required duplication check, but the selected runner may prevent the check from running and the configured token threshold may be stricter than intended. It is mergeable with explicit owner awareness or follow-up to confirm runner availability and correct the threshold setting. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)

GitHub Actions self-hosted runner labels ubicloud-standard-2 Ubicloud GitHub Actions integration runner types
💡 Result:
The label ubicloud-standard-2 is a configuration for Ubicloud's GitHub Actions runners [1]. It provisions an x64 virtual machine with 2 vCPUs, 8GB of memory, and 75GB of disk space, running Ubuntu 24.04 by default [1]. In your GitHub workflow, you use this label in the runs-on field to utilize Ubicloud runners instead of GitHub-hosted runners [2]: runs-on: ubicloud-standard-2 Ubicloud provides various runner types that allow you to select specific vCPU counts, architectures (x64 or arm64), and operating system versions [1]. The available runner labels follow specific patterns: Standard x64 runners: ubicloud-standard-{vcpu}-{os} [1] ARM64 runners: ubicloud-standard-{vcpu}-arm-{os} [1] For example, using ubicloud-standard-8 provisions an 8 vCPU x64 runner, while ubicloud-standard-4-arm-ubuntu-2204 provisions a 4 vCPU arm64 runner with Ubuntu 22.04 [1]. If no OS is specified, the default is Ubuntu 24.04 [1]. These runners are ephemeral, providing a clean VM for each job [3]. Top results: [1][2][4]

Use an available runner for the required check.
If this repository is not connected to Ubicloud or has no runner with the ubicloud-standard-2 label, GitHub keeps the job queued and the duplication gate does not run. Confirm that a test run reaches actions/checkout, or change the job to ubuntu-latest.

jscpd 5.1.1 configuration minTokens min-tokens
💡 Result:
In jscpd, the configuration setting for the minimum number of tokens required to identify a code clone is named minTokens when used in a configuration file (e.g.,.jscpd.json), and --min-tokens (or -k) when used as a command-line interface (CLI) argument [1][2]. Configuration Details: - Config File Key: minTokens (camelCase) [2][3] - CLI Flag: --min-tokens (kebab-case) [1][4] - Default Value: 50 [1][2] - Purpose: Defines the minimum size of a code block in tokens. Any code block containing fewer tokens than this value is ignored by the detector [2]. Example.jscpd.json configuration: { "minTokens": 50, "minLines": 5 } When using the CLI, you would use the flag as follows: jscpd. --min-tokens 50

site:github.com/kucherenko/jscpd "minTokens" "serde" configuration
💡 Result:
The term minTokens refers to a configuration option used by jscpd (a copy/paste detector for source code) [1][2]. It defines the minimum size of a code block, measured in tokens, below which the code will be skipped during duplication detection [2]. In a configuration file (such as.jscpd.json), it is specified as minTokens [3][2]. Example configuration: { "minTokens": 50 } Key details regarding minTokens: - Type: number [2] - Default value: 50 [3][4][2] - CLI flag: --min-tokens or -k [3][5][2] - Purpose: It allows users to control the sensitivity of the detector by setting the threshold for what is considered a significant code clone [6][2]. Please note that minTokens is a specific configuration key for the jscpd tool and is not related to the Rust serde library (Serialization/Deserialization framework), which is a common point of confusion given the similar naming convention used in some serialization contexts.

Use minTokens in .jscpd.json.
jscpd@5.1.1 reads the configuration property as minTokens. The current "min-tokens" property does not override the default of 50 tokens. Rename it to apply the required 100-token threshold.

Closes #9
What
Adds
.jscpd.jsonand.github/workflows/jscpd.yml, which fails CI when copy-paste duplication crosses the threshold. Why
The 2026-08-31 fleet audit found no repo measuring duplicated code, and
copy-pasted helpers are one of the things an agent-authored diff produces most.
This repo measures 0.96% duplication today, so the gate lands at full
strength: no baseline, no allowance for existing clones, nothing to clean up
first. That is the cheapest moment to add it.
Scope is TS and TSX only, with tests,
node_modules,.next,dist,buildand
coverageignored.min-tokens: 100keeps it quiet on idiom: a nine-lineimport header is only 65 tokens, and Tailwind class strings are single tokens, so
neither ever registers as a clone.
How I verified
Measured the same way on eight sibling repos: all reported 0.00%, so the
threshold is not silently passing on a bad default.
Proof: n/a — adds a CI gate only, no runtime or visible change.
