v0.14.3

Compare Source

Many bug fixes in this release. Thanks especially to @vlsi and @subhramit for
all the contributions! As they are now committers, their many contributions are
not credited individually below.

Two bug fixes of note are #2005 and #2003, which may lead to new warnings even
outside JSpecify mode.

We have also added initial support for @PolyNull in library models in #1813.
We will continue to enhance this support, but it should be helpful in removing
some false positives from JSpecifyExperimental mode.

grpc/grpc-java (io.grpc:grpc-bom)

v1.85.1

What's Changed

v1.85.0

gRPC Java 1.85.0 Release Notes

API Changes
  • netty: Support never-indexed metadata keys (#12976) (e9a8c2b). High-cardinality metadata values provide little compression benefit and can churn the server's dynamic HPACK table. Adds NettyChannelBuilder.neverIndexMetadataKey() and neverIndexMetadataKeys() so callers can mark selected outbound metadata keys for HPACK's never-indexed literal representation.
  • binder: Add Context-based hasPermissions() to SecurityPolicies and deprecate the PackageManager version.
Behavior Changes
  • xds: allow wildcard listener port in LDS (5fda0c7). It now accepts a port of 0 in the LDS listener address as matching any port.

Bug Fixes
  •  xds: Make RawMessageClientInterceptor conditional on ext_proc flags (#13015) (e58489f). Fixes a bug that caused empty payloads on retry attempts for regular xDS channels.
  • core: Reset configSelector on realChannel while entering IDLE state (#12832) (fc43144). Because of a bug in the config selector, when ManagedChannel entered IDLE state due to resource deletion on the xDS control plane, the channel stayed stuck in IDLE state even after the resource came back online and a new rpc was executed.
  • core: Gracefully handle GOAWAY frames with unrecognized error codes (#13035) (b3ae801). When a server or proxy sent a GOAWAY with an unrecognized HTTP/2 error code, such as 70007 from Apache httpd, Netty transport clients logged NullPointerException: Http2Error cannot be null for GOAWAY and RPCs could hang until their deadline. Such codes are now treated as INTERNAL_ERROR, so the transport shuts down cleanly.
Improvements
  • netty: make hostname verification configurable (#13002) (2858db2). This configures HTTPS endpoint identification in GrpcSslContexts and updates ClientTlsHandler to preserve an explicit empty-string opt-out. A null algorithm still falls back to HTTPS, retaining hostname verification for custom contexts that do not select an algorithm.
  • bazel: Adopt proto_lang_toolchain for java_grpc_library() (#12994) (c9ee3f8). java_grpc_library and java_lite_grpc_library now invoke protoc through Protobuf's proto_lang_toolchain instead of always using @com_google_protobuf//:protoc. They now use the same protoc and protoc options as java_proto_library.
New Features
  • api: Implement custom events framework in gRPC-Java server (#12980) (dd00881). This adds triggerEvent/onEvent APIs to ServerCall and ServerCall.Listener. This allows events to be triggered on the ServerCall and be delivered as a listener callback.
Dependencies
  • Upgrade protobuf for bazel from 36.0 to 36.0.bcr.1 (#13013) (9799887)
  • netty: Upgrade Netty to 4.2.17 (#13036) (61b910b). netty-tcnative remains at 2.0.81.

v7.1.2

Compare Source

2026-10-27

Common
  • Security: normalize line terminators in schema paths before emitting Java, Kotlin, and Swift source comments. This prevents source injection in Kotlin and Swift output. Regenerate affected sources with the updated compiler, then rebuild and redistribute affected artifacts ([GHSA-r593-m628-69hh][GHSA-r593-m628-69hh])
Kotlin
  • Security: bound packed-field collection allocation hints to payload bytes already buffered. This prevents excessive allocation from truncated streamed messages. Upgrade the runtime to protect existing generated adapters; source regeneration is not required ([GHSA-568c-w3hc-p2v4][GHSA-568c-w3hc-p2v4])

v7.1.1

Compare Source

2026-10-27

Kotlin
  • Fix: redact nested message values inside sealed oneof fields when calling ProtoAdapter.redact(). Regenerate Kotlin sources to apply this fix (#3734)
Swift
  • Security: reject truncated nested messages before changing ProtoReader state or advancing its frame stack. Error cleanup now visits only initialized frames, preventing crashes or corruption of retained messages ([GHSA-f4vm-4gr7-vrcg][GHSA-f4vm-4gr7-vrcg])
lysine-dev/okhttp (com.squareup.okhttp3:okhttp)

v5.5.1

2026_10_22

  • Fix: [Block 8 compromised eMudhra intermediate certificates][Mozilla_eMudhra]. Note that this
update is not necessary for Android devices with Google Play Services as Google has issued an
[automatic update][Google_eMudhra]. This change protects JVMs and AOSP devices that are exposed
    to the compromised certificates.
google/error-prone (com.google.errorprone:error_prone_test_helpers)

v2.51.0: Error Prone 2.51.0

New checks:

  • HashCodeInObjectsHash: Detect redundant hashCode() or Objects.hash() calls inside Objects.hash(...), and simplify single-argument Objects.hash(x) calls to Objects.hashCode(x).
  • LoopToTestParameter: Suggest migrating loops in unit tests to TestParameterInjector.
  • MissingJavadoc: Flag public types that are missing Javadoc comments (disabled by default).
  • PreferCharsetOverload: Prefer calling method and constructor overloads that accept a Charset over those that accept a String encoding name.
  • PreferPreconditions: Suggest using Guava's Preconditions instead of explicit if-throw statements for parameter validation (disabled by default).
  • RequireNonNullRefactoring: Refactor explicit if (x == null) { throw new NullPointerException(...); } checks to Objects.requireNonNull (disabled by default).
  • SimplifyTestParameter: Remove redundant explicit value lists on @TestParameter annotations for boolean and Enum types when all values are specified (disabled by default).
  • TraditionalJavadocToMarkdown: Convert traditional /** ... */ Javadoc comments into /// Markdown Javadoc comments (disabled by default).
  • ValueClassIdentity: Flag reliance on identity semantics (such as synchronization, WeakReference, IdentityHashMap, or System.identityHashCode) of value-based classes (disabled by default).

Other changes:

  • CompareToZero: Upgraded from warning to error, and expanded to flag non-relational operations, unary negation, and switch statements/expressions on compareTo and compare results without Integer.signum.
  • IfChainToSwitch: Enabled by default as a warning.
  • UndefinedEquals: Merged ArrayAsKeyOfSetOrMap and CollectionUndefinedEquality into UndefinedEquals (retaining their names as altNames), and generalized detection of types without well-defined equals or hashCode across direct equality, collection containment, and hash-based containers.
  • EqualsIncompatibleType / TruthIncompatibleType: Flag equality comparisons between distinct record types (#6107).
  • ReferenceEquality: Allow == comparisons on private classes whose type hierarchy does not override Object.equals (#5865), private static final sentinel fields, Thread (#5900), and com.sun.source.tree.Tree.
  • PatternMatchingInstanceof: Support while and for loops, parenthesized expressions (#5843), and replacing additional redundant casts when the instanceof already introduces a pattern variable.
  • DistinctVarargsChecker: Expanded to check Objects.hash, CompletableFuture.allOf/anyOf, EnumSet.of, Sets.union/intersection/difference, Stream.concat, Math.min/max, and additional JDK, Guava, Protobuf, Truth, and Mockito methods.
  • MustBeClosedChecker: Require java.lang.foreign.Arena.ofConfined and Arena.ofShared to be closed.
  • ImpossibleNullComparison: Flag null checks on the return value of Class.forName.
  • RestrictedApi / RestrictedInheritance: Added an allowedPaths attribute to allow calls or inheritance from matching file paths without a regular expression.
  • InlineMeInliner: Support substituting type arguments at call sites when inlining generic @InlineMe methods.
  • WellKnownKeep: Recognize Apache Beam DoFn annotations and retain open-source library annotations (Gson, Mockito, Guice, Objectify, TestParameterInjector, AutoFactory).
  • Per-check timing collection is now disabled by default, reducing Error Prone compile-time overhead by ~3–5%; pass -XepPrintTimings to print a timing report after compilation or -XepRecordTimings to record timings programmatically (#6079).
  • CompilationTestHelper now reports all lines with mismatched diagnostic expectations in a single test run rather than failing on the first mismatch (#6116).
  • Replaced the RE2/J dependency with SafeRE.
