feat: Add QUERY method (RFC 10008) support

Currently, gleam_http defines HTTP methods based on RFC 2616 and RFC 5789. However, in June 2026, the IETF published RFC 10008 which officially standardizes the QUERY method.

The QUERY method is designed for safe, idempotent requests that carry a request payload (body) but do not modify server state. It fills the gap between:

• GET — safe and cacheable but doesn't support request bodies (per spec)
• POST — supports request bodies but is neither safe, idempotent, nor cacheable

Proposal: Add Query variant to the Method type.

If this gets approved, I'd be happy to submit a PR with the implementation, tests, and documentation! 🚀

This is certainly something I'm interested in, but I would like confidence that the new standard is being adopted rather than being an ignored RFC. So far the only example I have found is dotnet 10, hopefully others follow soon.

Thanks for the feedback! Makes total sense.

My background is mostly in Java, so I've only seen the PR in Spring so far (which is basically the go-to for enterprise Java these days).

If I understood you correctly, I can keep an eye on support for the QUERY method in other popular frameworks/libraries and gather some data to see where things stand.

https://github.com/jeswr/http-query-adoption seems to be tracking a lot of this. It looks like OpenAPI 3.2 spec already shipped QUERY support before the RFC was finalized. The only merged PR I saw was nodejs/undici#5459.

As you can see, there's a bunch of projects being updated.

@lpil it looks like many projects are already doing this or have implemented it, for example:

• Erlang/OTP: hackney
• Elixir: Phoenix (waiting for the underlying library to release with QUERY method support, which is already implemented there)
• JavaScript: Express.js and Node.js

Maybe it's time? 🚀
