Public Docker Image Mirror for External Contributors #339
I am an external developer interested in exploring the AirLab project for testing and research. I have been following the Getting Started documentation, but I noticed that pulling pre-built images from the AirLab Docker registry (airlab-docker.andrew.cmu.edu) currently requires a CMU Andrew ID.
Problem
While I understand that building the images from source locally is an option, having access to pre-built public images would significantly lower the barrier for external users to quickly test and prototype with the stack.
Proposed Solution
Would the team consider hosting a public image mirror on a platform like GitHub Container Registry (GHCR) or Docker Hub? This would allow the community to pull stable versions of the images directly without needing internal university credentials.
Additional Context
I am very excited about the work being done here and would love to dive into the code for testing. If there is already a public mirror available or a preferred way for external users to access pre-built images that I might have missed, please let me know!
Thank you for your time and for making this project open source.
Hi, thanks for your comment! Yes in the future we will host images publicly. We're currently working on a CI/CD pipeline to auto build and push images. In the meantime, building the image locally also works. You can run airstack image-build and all the images will be built.
Thanks for trying it out! Do let us know what you think and update us about any suggestions.

Thanks for the update, Andrew! I’ll build the images locally for now.
Looking forward to the public images—happy to share feedback as I explore.
