fix: quiet call console errors from heartbeat and avatar downloads - #10542
During a call, the browser console fills with errors even though the call works. This quiets the ones that come from us. It ships with the next release.
Why
delayed_events 401: the call heartbeat is first sent without the user's token. Our chat server rejects it, and then the request is sent again with the token. Every heartbeat therefore logs a 401. The newer chat library does the same, so this change stays after that upgrade.
Repeated media errors: when a participant's picture fails to load, the call screen asks for it again every time a tile changes size. Each attempt fails again and logs another error.
What changes
The heartbeat is sent with the token from the start, so the 401 is gone.
Downloads of the same picture that run at the same time share one request.
A picture that failed is not asked for again for 60 s.
A download that hangs is given up after 20 s.
All of the call's requests to the chat server now go out one way, through the chat library, so the login token and errors are handled in one place.
The new tests cover the single authenticated heartbeat, the shared and held-back downloads, the timeout, and the hidden console line. Each one fails without the fix.
Code comments were added or changed in ElementCallWidgetDriver.ts and the new quietDownloadErrors.ts.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
While a call is open, the specific media-download error is suppressed in the console. Other errors continue to be logged, and normal logging resumes when the call ends.
Overlapping downloads of the same media item share a request. Failed downloads can be retried after 60 seconds, and downloads time out after 20 seconds.
Delayed call actions, including pending leave requests, are sent through authenticated requests, with page-exit leave requests configured to continue while the page closes.
…n download once per call
The chat SDK sends the delayed-event update without a token first and only
retries with one after the chat server refuses, logging a 401 on every call
heartbeat. The driver now sends it with the session token from the start,
keeping the server-support check.
A media download that failed in a call now fails at once for the rest of
that call, so the call UI's avatar retries on every tile resize no longer
hit the chat server again.
Refs #10541
The widget library logs "error while downloading a file" for every failed
download the call UI asks for. While a call is open that exact message is
filtered; every other console error passes through. The filter is removed
when the last open call closes, and never clobbers a wrapper installed after
it. A temporary hide until the failing downloads are fixed.
Also moves the call host test client to the authenticated delayed-event
update.

Walkthrough
Call-widget delayed-event updates now check server support and use authenticated POST requests. The driver records failed media URIs per call. Call setup and cleanup activate and release a filter for the exact media-download console message.
The driver checks server support and sends cancel, restart, and send actions through authenticated POST requests. Tests cover endpoint encoding, action bodies, unsupported servers, and session-token authentication.
Failed media download handling src/main/userMessaging/calls/ElementCallWidgetDriver.ts, src/main/userMessaging/calls/ElementCallWidgetDriver.test.ts
The driver records URIs after rejected or non-OK downloads and rejects later attempts for those URIs. Tests cover HTTP and network failures, other media, and a separate driver.
The widget activates the filter during setup and releases it during cleanup. The filter suppresses only the exact media-download error while calls are open. Tests cover other errors, multiple releases, and wrappers installed above the filter.
A stalled avatar download may remain pending, though the call remains usable. This is a bounded follow-up risk rather than a merge blocker.

Explanation
[#10541] Delayed-event heartbeat: ElementCallWidgetDriver.updateDelayedEvent sends POST /delayed_events/<id> through client.http.authedRequest with the action in the body. The request is authenticated from the first call, so the unauthenticated 401 path of the chat SDK is no longer used. sendPendingLeavesNow uses the same path with keepAlive: true. Media downloads: downloadFile shares in-flight requests per content URI, holds a failed result for 60 s (FAILED_DOWNLOAD_HOLD_MS), and rejects a hanging request after 20 s (DOWNLOAD_TIMEOUT_MS). Console noise: quietDownloadErrors hides only the exact message error while downloading a file while the call is open, passes other errors through, and restores console.error on release. CallWidgetFrame installs it for the call lifetime. The reported tests cover these behaviors. Deviation to note: the issue's expected behavior says a failed avatar is fetched once per call. The code retries after the 60 s hold, so a broken avatar can be requested again during a long call. This bounds the repeated requests and removes the per-resize flood the issue reports, so the core objective is met. The retry is a documented design choice in the PR description. Out of scope by the issue: the set_always_on_screen error, the capabilities 401 in #10538, and the server-side 500 cause. The code does not change these.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
[#10541] All changes serve the issue's scope. The ElementCallWidgetDriver changes cover the delayed-event authentication and the avatar download handling named in the issue. The sendPendingLeavesNow move to authedRequest affects the same MSC4140 delayed-event endpoint and is explained in the PR as consolidating the chat-server requests of the call. The 20 s download timeout and 60 s hold are part of the avatar handling the PR describes. The temporary exact-match console filter (quietDownloadErrors.ts, CallWidgetFrame.tsx) matches the issue's proposed console patch. The type-only Method import and the CallHostClient type change support the new request path. Tests in ElementCallWidgetDriver.test.ts, CallOverlayHost.test.tsx, and quietDownloadErrors.test.ts cover these changes. No change implements the set_always_on_screen fix, the #10538 capabilities work, or the server-side media fix.

… call
A response can arrive OK and its body still fail to read, for example when
the connection drops mid-stream. That failure escaped the per-call record,
so the same media was fetched again on every request. Addresses CodeRabbit
review comment on the download path.
Delete pending leaves only after the update succeeds.
cancelScheduledDelayedEvent and sendScheduledDelayedEvent remove the delay ID before awaiting updateDelayedEvent. If the feature check or authenticated update rejects, sendPendingLeavesNow cannot include that ID in its page-exit request.

around lines 218 - 220:
In cancelScheduledDelayedEvent and sendScheduledDelayedEvent, move removal of
the delay ID from pendingLeaves until after updateDelayedEvent succeeds, so a
rejected update leaves the ID available to sendPendingLeavesNow.
… media
Overlapping downloadFile calls for the same content URI (several avatar
tiles of one participant, or a resize while a download is in flight)
each passed the failed-download check and issued their own request.
They now share the in-flight request; a failed download stays failed
for the call, a successful one is fetched afresh next time.
Addresses CodeRabbit review on PR #10542.
…e, simplify the console filter
- A failed download is held for 60 s, not the whole call, so a temporary
failure can recover.
- A download that hangs is given up after 20 s, so shared asks are not stuck.
- The console filter is taken after the widget API is built and keeps no
module state: each install has its own flag, so a replaced console.error
cannot leave it stale.
- The delayed-event update drops the server-support check: a delay id only
exists after the send, which already checked it. The page-exit leave uses
the shared path prefix.

I ran the same scripted walk twice on a fresh local stack: first on develop (9d59fb0), then on this PR (b5d4ce9).
Setup: one user starts a 1:1 voice call. The caller's chat picture points to an image that does not exist. The window is resized every 10 s so the call tiles redraw. The call stayed open for about 100 s in both runs; the call ends on its own when no one answers.

What is left in the console with this PR:
the browser's own "failed to load" line for each picture request (it cannot be hidden);
the out-of-scope set_always_on_screen and io.element.join errors and an e2ee notice from Element Call. All of these appear on develop too.
The call itself works the same: it rings, and the missing picture falls back to the initial.
…chat SDK
The page-close leave and the avatar download used hand-written fetches with
their own token header. The SDK's request call covers both (keepAlive, raw
blob body, local timeout), so the token, base URL and errors now have one owner.
Live check again after the request clean-up (0af501a)
I ran the same walk on a fresh stack. The numbers match the earlier run of this PR exactly: 0 heartbeat 401s, 2 requests for the broken picture, 0 "error while downloading a file" lines and 9 console errors in total. The develop baseline is unchanged at 2 / 17 / 17 / 40.
Live check: answered call, closing the tab, reloading (0af501a)
Earlier runs only covered a call nobody answered, with a broken picture. This run covers the paths those runs left open. It is a fresh local stack on this PR's head. Both users have a real uploaded picture, and the other person answers.

Pictures show in the call tiles after the other person joins
Both pictures load. They are still there after 6 window resizes. Every picture request returned 200.
Caller closes the tab mid-call
The other side sees the caller leave 0.3 s later.
Caller reloads mid-call
The other side sees the caller leave 0.3 s later. After the reload the caller is still signed in to chat on the same device, with no new sign-in. A message typed in the chat afterwards reaches the other person.
Heartbeat 401s / "error while downloading a file" lines
0 / 0
Why the 0.3 s matters: the call asks the server to drop a member after 1 hour if the browser goes away silently. A leave this fast means the leave sent on page exit got through. The chat server's log shows that request arriving with status 200, on both close and reload.
Not changed by this PR: Element Call downloads a successful picture again on each resize. This happens on develop too, and the requests succeed, so nothing appears in the console.

Fixes #10541
During a call, the browser console fills with errors even though the call works. This quiets the ones that come from us. It ships with the next release.
Why
delayed_events401: the call heartbeat is first sent without the user's token. Our chat server rejects it, and then the request is sent again with the token. Every heartbeat therefore logs a 401. The newer chat library does the same, so this change stays after that upgrade. What changes
Tests
The new tests cover the single authenticated heartbeat, the shared and held-back downloads, the timeout, and the hidden console line. Each one fails without the fix.
