For this version's release notes, which may give more explanation on why the versions stated below are the required ones, please see https://releases.gamemaker.io/release-notes/2024/13

Important

Do not use tools versions different to what is written in the guides below (including newer versions!) - GameMaker might not know how to support them properly and you may give yourself build errors or even IDE instability.

Android (GMS2)

Caution

Do not update any Android tools as soon as updates are offered, as you do not need new versions just because and Google like to move files around, which might break your setup, so always check here first!

  • Android setup guide
  • Google Play requires you to use API 30 or above when submitting
  • Minimum SDK Version supported is 21

GX.games (GMS2)

  • GX.games setup guide
  • Be aware that uploading of Game Strips can only be done from the Windows IDE - Mac IDEs and Ubuntu IDEs do not support this

Tip

Publish your games for free on the GX.games Community! GameMaker can upload the game automatically for you when you build your export packages.

HTML5 (GMS2)

iOS (GMS2)

Note

Our docs and the GameMaker IDE do not refer to iPadOS as there currently is no fundamental change compared to regular iOS and so GameMaker's iOS packages work perfectly fine on iPad. We will obviously monitor this going forward and react if Apple make a breaking change, but for now just bear in mind if you have "iOS" you have "iPadOS" also.

  • iOS setup guide
  • Please see the macOS setup guide below for XCode/iOS compatibility and which versions of macOS you must have in order to do iOS development
  • Minimum iOS version supported is 13
  • To submit to the AppStore, Apple require you to be using XCode 16 and iOS SDK 18 - see https://developer.apple.com/news/upcoming-requirements/ for the latest info

macOS (GMS2)

Spine

Any Spine images in your game must have been exported using Spine runtime 4.0 specifically.

Steamworks

Please check the extension's own support page for information on which SDK version it requires

tvOS (GMS2)

Important

XCode does not install the tvOS runtimes automatically, so ensure you install this optional component inside XCode's settings

  • tvOS setup guide
  • Please see the macOS setup guide higher up this page for XCode/tvOS compatibility and which versions of macOS you must have in order to do tvOS development
  • Minimum tvOS version supported is 13
  • To submit to the AppStore, Apple require you to be using XCode 16 and tvOS SDK 18 - see https://developer.apple.com/news/upcoming-requirements/ for the latest info

Ubuntu (GMS2)

  • Ubuntu setup guide
  • Requires Ubuntu 24 LTS (64bit)
  • No other Ubuntu versions or any other Linux distros are officially supported

Windows (GMS2)

Tip

If you wish to use our GDK extension in order to support Xbox Live functionality in Windows games, then please note that you need to be an approved GDK developer with Microsoft before you will be able to request the extension from us or use it in your games - more information on the GDK system and applying for ID@Xbox can be found here.
