Backend engineer, trying to become a data engineer.

I work mostly on backend systems, databases, storage, and the parts of software where consistency stops being optional.

Currently

  • Software engineer intern at İKAN-HR, rewriting a backend around Django, PostgreSQL, and SeaweedFS. I also help with frontend work when needed.
  • Building the backend for Violaid with a friend.
  • Studying Computer Science at Istanbul University.
  • President of Istanbul University's Data Club Community.

Selected projects

Local-first personal document store written in Go. Original bytes live in a content-addressed filesystem blob store; metadata and FTS5 search live in SQLite. Includes import/export, tagging, OCR jobs, integrity checks, and backup/restore flows.

Institutional work and event coordination system developed for Istanbul University's Corporate Communication Coordination Office. FastAPI, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, React Native/Expo, audit logs, notification outbox, and scheduler-backed reminders. It replaced a workflow that otherwise lived in chat.

First-place NeuroBridge Hackathon project. An ML-based drug-screening pipeline built from SMILES inputs with FastAPI prediction services for BBB permeability, logBB exposure, and toxicity risk.

A student information system I built to learn Go and databases: PostgreSQL constraints, transactions, advisory locks, triggers, audit logs, materialized views, and REST APIs. It is a learning project, not production guidance; assume there are mistakes.

Background

  • Former part-time software engineer at Istanbul University.
  • Led seven technical events through the Data Club Community with speakers and partners including Red Hat, EPAM, PyData, and the Turkish AI Community.

Writing

I occasionally write at FuneralCS. The most technical piece so far is LSM Trees vs. B-Trees.

Working set

  • Languages: Go, Python, SQL
  • Backend: Django, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Goose, Alembic
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, SQLite, DuckDB
  • Storage: SeaweedFS, R2
  • Interface: Gio
  • Tooling: Docker, Linux, Git
