⚠️ Needs a close review — startos/versions/, startos/init/bootstrapNextcloud.ts and startos/actions/maintenance/disableUnstableApps.ts; check the 34-series upgrade floor, removal of unreachable legacy migrations and retention of the new sharing core app.
🧪 Needs live testing — upgrade an existing Nextcloud 34 install with files, shares and custom apps; watch the schema migration, recovery action and configured integrations.

Summary

  • Update the official Nextcloud Apache image to 35.0.1 and publish 35.0.1:0. The branch contains the major upgrade from the published Nextcloud 34 series; this cycle is a patch increment within 35 and follows the pin-and-artifact-only scope.
  • Verify that Docker Hub publishes the exact 35.0.1-apache tag for amd64 and arm64. PostgreSQL and Valkey retain their existing floating major tags.
  • Keep Nextcloud 35's new sharing core app enabled during Disable Non-default Apps recovery.
  • Raise the version graph's floor to 34.0.0:0. Remove the unreachable 33-series nodes, StartOS 0.3.5 migration and associated bootstrap/i18n code. A 33-series install must update to the published 34 release before this release is offered; the pre-init major-skip guard remains in place.
  • Refresh FileBrowser and NextExplorer's next lock pins. Their manifests are used only as typeof mount types. Both now pin SDK 2.0.9, so remove the redundant SDK override; the lock retains one SDK copy. The root SDK is already current at 2.0.9.
  • Update localized release notes to 35.0.1, retaining the unshipped major-release features and upgrade constraints while excluding fixes already shipped on master.
  • The configured alpha, beta and production registries currently list 34.0.4:5 as their best candidate; none lists 35.0.1:0. README and user instructions need no changes for this cycle's pin/type-dependency updates.

Verification limits

The earlier branch work performed the major-version compatibility pass; this cycle did not repeat that source audit for the patch increment. The current artifact still needs the fuller package build and runtime verification before handoff.

npm install reports two high-severity dependency advisories. They were not investigated in this pin-only cycle; dependency security assessment remains outstanding.

Testing

npm run check passed. No Docker build, make, s9pk pack, installation or runtime test was run this cycle.

  • Build the current package for x86_64 and aarch64; confirm the 35.0.1 Apache image and added image configuration produce usable artifacts.
  • Upgrade an existing Nextcloud 34 install with user files, shares and custom apps to 35.0.1:0; confirm copying and database migration complete, Web Interface becomes healthy, login succeeds, files and shares remain accessible, and sync/upload works after a restart. Also exercise the patch update from an existing 35-series install.
  • With a 33-series install migrated from StartOS 0.3.5, confirm Updates offers the published 34 release first rather than this release; after installing 34, confirm 35.0.1:0 becomes available.
  • On a running 35.0.1:0 install, run Configure, restart and confirm locale, phone region, maintenance window, trash retention and skeleton-file choices persist.
  • With a non-default app enabled on a running 35.0.1:0 install, run Disable Non-default Apps; confirm it is disabled while the built-in sharing app remains enabled and the web interface still loads.
  • Upgrade an install with external storage and a running office or Talk dependency already configured; restart and confirm mounted files, document editing, connector health and relay settings still work.

Merge with a merge commit — do not squash. next is long-lived.

Pin the published 35.0.0 Apache image and keep the new sharing core app out of the non-default-app recovery action.

Refresh the FileBrowser and NextExplorer iteration-branch lock pins. The 35 image retains the package paths, entrypoint markers, command contracts, PHP runtime, and PostgreSQL compatibility used by the wrapper; Nextcloud handles its schema migration through occ upgrade.

Resolves the release-notes conflict with 34.0.4:5 by carrying its aarch64 crash fix into the 35.0.0:0 notes under a Fixed heading, since 34.0.4:5 has not reached the stable registry.

Cross-review approved the current head; no code changes were requested. Requested @MattDHill for final review. Both architecture package builds passed as recorded above; the live Nextcloud 34 → 35 upgrade test remains outstanding.

35 only upgrades from 34, but the graph still started at 33.0.5:0, so
canMigrateFrom accepted 33 installs — including every server migrated
from StartOS 0.3.5.1 — and offered them 35, which guardUpstreamUpgrade
then refused. With the floor at 34.0.0:0, a 33 install falls outside
35's range, so the Updates tab steps it to 34.0.4:5 (which carries the
0.3.5 migration) and offers 35 after that.

The 33-line version files and the 0.3.5x migration are unreachable from
35 and go with them, along with their i18n strings.
