Allow bounded single-chunk splits under torch.compile - #1294
Avoid a torch.compile(fullgraph=True) failure when a data-dependent dimension provably fits in one split chunk. Preserve the existing split behavior otherwise.
Description of the change
Add a small helper used by RobustScale and RankGaussian: return the tensor as one chunk when PyTorch can prove the dimension fits; otherwise call the existing Tensor.split. This handles the bounded single-chunk case, including an empty dimension; it does not support arbitrary symbolic chunk counts.
Reproduction on Python 3.12 and PyTorch 2.14.0, CPU:
torch._dynamo.exc.UserError: Could not guard on data-dependent expression Eq(u0, 0) (unhinted: Eq(u0, 0)). (Size-like symbols: u0)
The helper avoids asking the compiler to determine the number of chunks when one chunk is already sufficient.
Validation
Strict Inductor checks passed for selected widths 0, 1, 3 and 8. The focused memory/processor suite also passed on an RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell host with PyTorch 2.14.0+cu130: 55 passed, no skips. No latency improvement is claimed.

Bug Fixes
Numerical transformations now handle empty tensor dimensions and dimensions no larger than the requested chunk size. Chunk boundaries and calculation results remain consistent across fitting and transformation, including when operations are applied independently to each chunk.
The change adds _split_tensor, which returns the input tensor as one chunk when its selected dimension is provably no larger than the chunk size. RankGaussian and robust scaling use the helper for existing chunking operations. Tests cover masked selections and chunk boundaries.
_split_tensor returns the original tensor as a one-element tuple when the selected dimension is provably no larger than the chunk size. Tests check compiled masked selections at several widths and cumulative sums within chunks.
Use helper in numerical preprocessing sdm/processing/numerical/rank_gaussian.py, sdm/processing/numerical/robust_scale.py
RankGaussian uses _split_tensor for fitting and transformation chunks. Robust scaling uses it for quantile-input chunks. Chunk sizes and calculations remain unchanged.
The change can still fail in supported fullgraph compilation, either at the new symbolic helper call or while calculating its chunk size.

Handle symbolic row counts before splitting.
RankGaussian._transform computes size with columns.size(-1) before calling _split_tensor. On the CPU path, split_size evaluates max(num_items, 1), so an unbacked symbolic row count can require a data-dependent guard before _split_tensor can select its single-chunk path. Boolean indexing through TableTensor can produce zero or multiple selected rows under torch.compile(fullgraph=True).
Use a symbolic-safe size calculation that preserves the minimum size of 1.

Preserve compilation on PyTorch 2.7.
PyTorch 2.7 is within the supported range because pyproject.toml declares torch>=2.7. Its Dynamo skip list includes torch.fx, and it does not register statically_known_true as an in-graph function. This call can therefore create a graph break in torch.compile(fullgraph=True), which rejects graph breaks. Add a compatible fallback or raise the minimum supported PyTorch version.

Exercise the compiled split on CUDA.
This test creates both the values and mask on CPU. Add a CUDA variant, with a skip when CUDA is unavailable, to cover the device used by the numerical processors.
As per path instructions: “parametrization covers relevant dtype/device variants.”
