Description

The shellscript package only runs .sh keys and treats a missing script as success, so the config.yaml keys in examples/simple and examples/interrupt-wait-for-pod never ran. Rename them to config.sh and config_check.sh, add apply scripts to the quickstart example, and point at ghcr.io/nvidia/nodewright-packages, which is where shellscript 1.1.2 is published.

Add examples for dependencies, uninstall, ordering, secrets, runtime-required, deployment-policy rollouts, config interrupts, and a real catalog package (copy-fail), each with a README. Rewrite the examples index and link it from docs/README.md and the quickstart.

  • If an AI tool wrote a meaningful part of this change, I have said so above, and I can explain and defend every line of it.

The shellscript package only runs <stage>.sh keys and treats a missing
script as success, so the config.yaml keys in examples/simple and
examples/interrupt-wait-for-pod never ran. Rename them to config.sh and
config_check.sh, add apply scripts to the quickstart example, and point
at ghcr.io/nvidia/nodewright-packages, which is where shellscript 1.1.2
is published.

Add examples for dependencies, uninstall, ordering, secrets,
runtime-required, deployment-policy rollouts, config interrupts, and a
real catalog package (copy-fail), each with a README. Rewrite the
examples index and link it from docs/README.md and the quickstart.

AI assistance: the examples and READMEs were drafted with Claude Code and
reviewed by me. Manifests were checked against the operator's Go validation
functions; not applied to a cluster.

Welcome to NodeWright, @jalavoy! Thanks for your first pull request.

Before review, please ensure:

  • All commits are signed off and signed: git commit -s -S (see CONTRIBUTING.md)
  • Commits follow Conventional Commits
  • Tests and linters pass locally before you push: make vet lint unit-tests from operator/, or make test from agent/. That is what our CI unit lane runs, and on a fork it is the faster path, since CI runs wait for a maintainer to start them
  • The pull request says what you ran and what you could not
  • The PR description explains the why behind your changes

A maintainer will review this soon.

Walkthrough

The change updates the quickstart and examples catalog. It adds runnable manifests and guides for shellscript stages, dependencies, ordering, staged rollouts, runtime readiness, secrets, configuration interrupts, a host mitigation, and uninstall. The examples describe node selection, package checks, execution, status inspection, and cleanup.

Inline comments:
Review comments at @examples/rollout/deployment-policy.yaml:
- Line 40: Update the rollout example around safetyLimit so the canary
compartment contains two nodes, with batches processing one node at a time; keep
safetyLimit at 100. Update the accompanying example instructions to fail both
canary nodes and clarify that a failure in the first batch leaves progress at
50%, below the stop threshold.

Review comments at @examples/runtime-required/README.md:
- Around line 72-74: Update the cleanup instructions near the `kubectl delete`
commands to explicitly remove the demo `NoSchedule` taint, so cleanup also works
when the package has not completed and no matching NodeWright remains to remove
it.

Review comments at @examples/secrets/README.md:
- Around line 18-20: Update the secret creation, inspection, and cleanup
commands in the README walkthrough to use a namespace variable set to the
operator’s installation namespace, keeping the Secret and package pod in the
same namespace.
- Around line 18-20: Update the Secret-creation example in the README to use
kubectl’s file-based input instead of --from-literal, so the credential is not
included in the command text; show the token sourced from a secure file.

Review comments at @examples/uninstall/README.md:
- Around line 3-5: Qualify the opening deletion statement in the README: say
deletion leaves package changes behind only when uninstall is not enabled. Keep
the later description of deletion-triggered uninstall through the finalizer
consistent with this exception.

- Around line 38-44: Update the worker-count prerequisite and default-tier
description in the rollout README to match the script’s behavior: either require
exactly six workers, or clarify that every worker beyond the first five remains
in the default tier. Keep the documentation consistent with the single-node
