The page sits fifth for "escape vs sanitize javascript" with no AI Overview above it and only weak pages ahead, yet turned 61 impressions into zero clicks in the last 28 days. The answer had icon pseudo-headings, a prompt-like quick answer and no treatment of validation, the five output contexts or framework behaviour.

  • Open with escaping, sanitizing and validation defined against each other, then a seven-row comparison table that stacks on mobile.
  • "Escaping: the same string, five contexts" with DOM examples (textContent, setAttribute, encodeURIComponent plus a protocol check, JSON in data attributes) and a per-context table of safe approaches and failure modes drawn from the OWASP XSS prevention rules.
  • "Sanitizing: keep some HTML, drop the rest" with a DOMPurify allowlist example and a setHTML feature check; "Sanitize input or escape output?" with the store-original, validate-in, escape-out rule and the re-parsing caveat.
  • A framework table (React, Angular, Vue, plain DOM), a defense-in-depth list (CSP, Trusted Types now Baseline, setHTML, HttpOnly), eight mistakes interviewers probe, six follow-up questions mirroring the SERP's People also ask, and links to the DOM XSS sinks, cookie options and Vue interpolation answers plus the escape-HTML exercise.
  • Quick answer and meta description rewritten; publishedAt added; registry and data version regenerated; competitor review excerpts updated.
