Warden Drops

A small datapack that gives the Warden actual loot on death, since vanilla it drops nothing.

Built for Minecraft 26.2 (data pack format 107.1).

What it drops

One roll per kill, so you never get more than one thing:

  • Silence Armor Trim - 20%
  • Ward Armor Trim - 20%
  • Swift Sneak I book - 18%
  • Swift Sneak II book - 9%
  • Swift Sneak III book - 4%
  • Nothing - 29%

Trims are common enough to be worth fighting for, but they're duplicable at a smithing table so they're kept modest. Swift Sneak books are the real reason to keep killing Wardens, and get rarer the higher the level so they don't flood the server.

For reference, actual ancient city loot chest rates are Swift Sneak Book 23.2%, Ward Armor Trim 5.0%, Silence Armor Trim 1.2% (rarest template in the game). Ours are deliberately different since this is a Warden kill reward, not a chest, but good to keep in mind.

Variants

The loot table comes in a couple of flavors, so admins can pick whichever fits their server. They're all in variants/, same odds, different rules:

  • default - drops no matter what kills the Warden (lava, fall damage, etc. all count).
  • player_kill - only drops if a player actually lands the kill.

There's no data/ folder in this repo, that's not missing. build.sh builds it fresh from whichever variant you pick, and it only shows up inside the zip in build/.

Install

Build the variant you want (see below), drop the resulting pack into your world's datapacks/ directory, then run /reload (or restart the server).

Check it's active, and see the version, with /datapack list.

Building

Run ./build.sh to package a pack into build/ as a zip, ready to drop onto a server.

  • ./build.sh on its own builds the default variant and bumps the version up by a small bugfix bump (e.g. 0.0.1 -> 0.0.2)
  • ./build.sh --variant player_kill builds a specific variant (see variants/ for the full list)
  • ./build.sh --minor for a bigger change (0.0.1 -> 0.1.0)
  • ./build.sh --major for a big rework (0.1.0 -> 1.0.0)
  • ./build.sh --version 1.2.3 to set the version directly
