This pull request makes significant changes to modernize and simplify the Android and iOS example app setup, removing Expo-specific configuration and dependencies and aligning the project more closely with a standard React Native template. It also introduces a new workflow for publishing and updates several build and configuration files for improved maintainability and compatibility.

Android Example App Modernization:

  • Removed Expo-specific configuration and dependencies from Gradle files, AndroidManifest.xml, and Kotlin source files, simplifying the project and making it a pure React Native example. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
  • Updated Gradle and Android build configurations: bumped Gradle version to 9.3.1, set explicit SDK and tool versions, and removed legacy and Expo-specific build logic for a cleaner setup. [1] [2] [3]
  • Cleaned up Gradle wrapper scripts by removing unnecessary classpath handling for a simpler build process. [1] [2] [3] [4]

iOS Example App Improvements:

  • Added a new SceneDelegate.swift to support modern iOS app lifecycle management, and updated the Xcode project to include it. [1] [2]
  • Added the nkf gem to the iOS Gemfile for improved Ruby environment compatibility.

Build and Tooling Updates:

  • Updated Babel and Metro configuration for both the main package and the example app to use modern, simpler syntax and presets, removing custom logic. [1] [2]
  • Added a .watchmanconfig file to the example app to ignore node_modules and .git directories for better developer experience.

Workflow Automation:

  • Introduced a new GitHub Actions workflow (publish.yml) to automate publishing to npm, supporting both manual version input and defaulting to package.json.

React Native App Initialization:

  • Ensured gesture handler is initialized first in the example app’s entry point for React Native compatibility.

These changes collectively transition the example app from an Expo-managed workflow to a standard React Native setup, streamline build and configuration files, and add automation for publishing and development.
