This repository will be the future home of the Jacksonville, Florida Linux Users Group Membership Roster. The official list of members will be maintained here, and will either be a static document, or ideally, through JaxLUG member contributions, a live membership page with data from Meetup, Discord, Github, and any other source of membership.
At minimum this list should make available the legal first and last name of all members. Those wishing to remain anonymous may have some considerations, but in general, this is a public group, open to the public, laws require transparency, and given the in-person nature of meetings, there should be no expectations of privacy.
Personal information such as member email address will not be made public. Ideally, their personal choice of Linux distribution will be made known, such that others in the community have an idea who in the group to talk to about their favorite Linux distribution.
This is all TBD.
Presently, the Jacksonville Linux Users Group™ (JaxLUG™) does not have an official member roster, or even unofficial. Anyone can claim to be a JaxLUG member, without any means of verification or proof. Is being on Meetup.com sufficient? Is being on Discord, or the mailing list sufficient? When on Discord under an alias or even Mailing List or Meetup, there is no way to verify membership.
This repository aims to resolve the deficiency of, anyone can claim to be a member of the JaxLUG, and is required by law for such non-profit organizations of members.
Once implemented, this will not only be for legal compliance, but verification if someone says they are a member, anyone in the general public can easily verify without any burden on the group.
