It worked with no problem, until I enabled a broken resource pack (rrfailed), but even after reverting, it crashes editing

Current behavior

When I go to edit my loading screen progress bar (it had text, bar, and 2 player entities of my own character) suddenly my game crashes. It worked completely fine about an hour ago, and then I tried to put a completely unrelated resource pack in, which gave resource reload fail behaviour, so I "reverted everything how it was" and that's when I noticed my custom loading screen suddenly wasn't working.

Even if I delete the "broken" layout preset, and try to make another, I crash when putting in fancy entity player.

Steps to reproduce

everything was going great until I tried to add this resource pack: modrinth.com/resourcepack/unofficial-immersive-interfaces-integration on top of immersive interface.

then when it failed and reset the resource packs, after "resetting" and rebuilding everything - my fancy entity / menu is crashing and not working ... I don't really know how to explain more

Could you try uninstalling FER, launching the client, try to reproduce (FancyMenu should ask you to install FER to use player entities), then close the client, install FER again, and then try to reproduce once more?

hi that seemeed to have worked!
i closed my game out, uninstalled (this mod) and then made a new loading screen setup which was basically the same as before just without entities. Then I did what you suggested and put the player entity model thing in, so it came up as a red box telling me to install the mod, then I closed the game and downloaded (this mod) again and suddenly things are working like they were before, with the player entity active in the loading screen.

Another thing I did during this time - disable fancy menu "seamless world loading" feature (but I don't think that should have been part of the problem).

Good, I'm glad it got solved. I don't know what caused it, but from the logs it seemed like Minecraft couldn't find FER anymore. I'll close this issue, but if it happens again under different circumstances let me know!

It did occur multiple times again over the next few days due to [unknown reasons] - it seemed to just break by itself and whenever it would break I could disable the mod, edit the loading screen with the FER asset to remove it, then add the mod again, go back into editing it and all works again until breaks. Zero clue why. It happened in a few different instances but I couldn't tell when exactly in the chain it happened. Did some tinkering in ReplayMod, and had a crash or two there with Not Enough Crashes installed. Both times it occurred.

I'm thinking maybe it loses the data in those situations and never gets it back, even when restarting the game the 'corruption' persists which is the annoying part. Until (it happens), everything works fine though. I ended up removing the FancyMenu suite overall though because there was a frequent (every 2s) hitch/microfreeze when moving the camera around that only existed when I had the mod and related installed, so unfortunately that is the end of the journey with FM and add-ons. It was very cool though, being able to edit the loading screen like that and have my little characters around.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, when eventually migrating to newer Minecraft versions, you'll have a chance to use FM and its addons again!
To be honest, FER for 1.21.1 and 1.20.1 is not very stable and is prone to errors, while it gets better and better (in terms of functionality and stability) as you get to newer Minecraft versions.
