Posting this as a Discussion rather than an Issue, since the Known-Defects wiki page already makes clear the sensor can only report what ESPN provides — this isn't a defect in the integration. Sharing it in case others hit the same thing with Carabao Cup or other cup competitions, and in case it's useful context for the maintainer.
What happened:
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur, Carabao Cup Third Round, Anfield, kickoff 2026-09-15T19:00Z
Event ID: 401914257
Final result: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham
The sensor's state attribute stayed PRE (clock: "Scheduled") for the entire match and well beyond:
70 min after kickoff: state=PRE
84 min after kickoff: state=PRE
114 min after kickoff: state=PRE
124 min after kickoff (match long over, 3-1 final): state=PRE
Verified at the source, not just in HA:
I queried the raw endpoint directly (not through the integration) at the same times: https://site.api.espn.com/apis/site/v2/sports/soccer/eng.league_cup/scoreboard
and it returned "status":{"type":{"id":"1","name":"STATUS_SCHEDULED","state":"pre","completed":false}} for this exact event throughout, confirming this is upstream ESPN data, not a parsing/polling issue in the integration. I understand from the Known-Defects wiki page that the sensor can only report what ESPN provides — flagging this so it's tracked, and in case anyone else has seen the same for Carabao Cup / other cup competitions, or has a workaround.
Environment: Team Tracker v0.18.1, HA 2026.8.2
Thanks for maintaining the Known-Defects list, it made it quick to confirm this wasn't already covered. Happy to share the full raw API response or check other Carabao Cup fixtures if that's useful — and if anyone else has run into this with cup competitions, curious to hear.
