Is there a way to give fping a timeout using the -n option?

I'm using fping using the -n option in order to do a reverse DNS lookup. If no DNS lookup is possible, fping hangs and I have not found a way to circumvent this behavior. Is there a solution that I have overlooked?

fping doesn't freeze immediately instead, it waits for the DNS response. Theoretically, this can take up to 10–15 seconds.

Do you happen to have an example where this behavior occurs so we can investigate it?

The only solution is as follows:

• Check the DNS server / resolver configuration
• Run the command without the -n option.
