please also add (in your own words if you may),
"#. Do request the language from within the
openedx-translations Transifex project_". This makes a hidden request that we cannot communicate with the requestee.
The Open edX team needs to verify the language code and often needs questions before accpeting any language e.g. German for Germany (
de_DE) vs Global German (de) or whether, for example, Arabic for Iraq (ar_IQ) makes sense to be added.
A language isn't added without a commitment from a translator to manage the translators for at least one release. The Open edX is a large projects and there's high turnaround of translators which results in low quality translations and in some cases invalid translations that causes server errors.
This is the gist of it. Not very well edited, but I hope it conveys the point of this process.
This is a partial update based on a bug report; this file needs deeper review as outlined in the linked ticket.
