Running guigui on niri (wayland)

I use nixos + niri wm, and I was running into issues when trying to run any of the examples.
I wanted to share my solution here in case anyone has issues with this setup, and for reference if you want to make some getting started docs with more nuanced instructions in the future.

Here is the solution:

First, install xwayland-satellite (system level, in nixos config):

  environment.systemPackages = [ pkgs.xwayland-satellite ];

And then make sure that is running at startup, by adding this to niri config.kdl (might need to log out and get back in again for it to start working)

spawn-at-startup "xwayland-satellite"

environment {
    DISPLAY ":0"
}
