From f99e619ca326956554ddd4bc5b194eb8f3dccdfd Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Romain Manni-Bucau Date: Fri, 6 Nov 2026 19:07:26 +0100 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] Parallel JDBC reads for Table Input on classic and native Spark engines Add four shared partition settings (jdbc_partition_column, jdbc_lower_bound, jdbc_upper_bound, jdbc_num_partitions) to Table Input metadata and its Options tab, documented in the user manual. TableInputPartitioning mirrors the Spark JDBC data source partition arithmetic so the classic engine (one range per transform copy) and native Spark (one range per partition) read the same rows. Spark: a native SparkJdbcInputHandler uses spark.read.jdbc for the partitioned read and falls back to the generic handler for per-row execution, named parameters, row limits or incoming parameter rows. Stored passwords are decrypted and metrics are forwarded to the fallback handler. The Spark plugin dependency descriptor now exposes the tableinput transform and the shared JDBC drivers. Add guard unit tests and H2 integration tests, and assert the new handler is registered in the converter test. --- .gitignore | 1 + .../pages/pipeline/transforms/tableinput.adoc | 18 +- plugins/engines/spark/pom.xml | 28 ++ .../HopPipelineMetaToSparkConverter.java | 5 +- .../handler/SparkJdbcInputHandler.java | 258 +++++++++++++++ .../org/apache/hop/spark/util/SparkConst.java | 1 + .../spark/src/main/resources/dependencies.xml | 2 + .../HopPipelineMetaToSparkConverterTest.java | 3 + .../handler/SparkJdbcInputHandlerIT.java | 128 ++++++++ .../handler/SparkJdbcInputHandlerTest.java | 113 +++++++ plugins/transforms/tableinput/pom.xml | 18 + .../transforms/tableinput/TableInput.java | 53 +++ .../transforms/tableinput/TableInputData.java | 3 + .../tableinput/TableInputDialog.java | 54 +++ .../transforms/tableinput/TableInputMeta.java | 26 ++ .../tableinput/TableInputPartitioning.java | 310 ++++++++++++++++++ .../messages/messages_de_DE.properties | 10 + .../messages/messages_en_US.properties | 13 + .../messages/messages_es_AR.properties | 12 +- .../messages/messages_es_ES.properties | 12 +- .../messages/messages_fr_FR.properties | 10 + .../messages/messages_it_IT.properties | 10 + .../messages/messages_ja_JP.properties | 10 + .../messages/messages_ko_KR.properties | 12 +- .../messages/messages_nl_NL.properties | 12 +- .../messages/messages_pt_BR.properties | 13 + .../messages/messages_zh_CN.properties | 10 + .../tableinput/TableInputMetaTest.java | 27 ++ .../TableInputPartitionedPipelineIT.java | 192 +++++++++++ .../TableInputPartitioningTest.java | 227 +++++++++++++ pom.xml | 2 + 31 files changed, 1587 insertions(+), 6 deletions(-) create mode 100644 plugins/engines/spark/src/main/java/org/apache/hop/spark/pipeline/handler/SparkJdbcInputHandler.java create mode 100644 plugins/engines/spark/src/test/java/org/apache/hop/spark/pipeline/handler/SparkJdbcInputHandlerIT.java create mode 100644 plugins/engines/spark/src/test/java/org/apache/hop/spark/pipeline/handler/SparkJdbcInputHandlerTest.java create mode 100644 plugins/transforms/tableinput/src/main/java/org/apache/hop/pipeline/transforms/tableinput/TableInputPartitioning.java create mode 100644 plugins/transforms/tableinput/src/test/java/org/apache/hop/pipeline/transforms/tableinput/TableInputPartitionedPipelineIT.java create mode 100644 plugins/transforms/tableinput/src/test/java/org/apache/hop/pipeline/transforms/tableinput/TableInputPartitioningTest.java diff --git a/.gitignore b/.gitignore index 27b47efd299..18eaa0c2137 100644 --- a/.gitignore +++ b/.gitignore @@ -38,6 +38,7 @@ integration-tests/surefire-reports/spreadsheet/exelwriter-testfile.xlsx **/*.json.old yarn-error.log integration-tests/scripts/*.json +.yca docs/content docs/public diff --git a/docs/hop-user-manual/modules/ROOT/pages/pipeline/transforms/tableinput.adoc b/docs/hop-user-manual/modules/ROOT/pages/pipeline/transforms/tableinput.adoc index 538d17f2ea8..67f69488294 100644 --- a/docs/hop-user-manual/modules/ROOT/pages/pipeline/transforms/tableinput.adoc +++ b/docs/hop-user-manual/modules/ROOT/pages/pipeline/transforms/tableinput.adoc @@ -209,6 +209,17 @@ where id > ${PRM_ID} AND lastdate > ?; [#parallel-reading] == Parallel reading +=== Built-in partitioned read + +Set all four JDBC partition options on the *Options* tab to split a query over a numeric result column. +The lower and upper bounds determine the partition stride; they do not filter the result, and the first partition includes null values. +The query must be valid as a subquery and expose the partition column. +On the classic engine, set the number of transform copies to at least the configured number of partitions; each copy uses a separate connection unless the run configuration shares connections. +On native Spark, a compatible source uses Spark JDBC partitions; configurations with incoming rows, named parameters, per-row execution or a row limit fall back to the generic handler. +Concurrent connections may observe different database snapshots, so use an appropriate consistency strategy. + +=== Manual partitioning + Keep `NR_COPIES` as a parameter of the pipeline. otherwise keep the generic handler so multi-input union and sampling wiring are preserved (blocker 1) - isNativePartitionedRead: public 3-arg decision helper; drops the isUseNamedParameters() gate in favor of actual SQL inspection via TableInputSql.parse; parse failure falls back (blocker 2) - Classic TableInput.init(): single copy or preview reads the whole table (partitionSlice null, bounds still validated); error only when copies > 1 and copies < configured (blocker 2) - Lookup (info hop) parameter feeds now fall back to the generic handler instead of failing with 'Parameter #1 is not set' (should fix 3) - Shared metadata loader extracted into HopSparkUtil.loadTransformMetadata, reused by SparkBaseTransformHandler and the converter decision (should fix 5) - Remove .yca from .gitignore and RAT excludes (should fix 4) - Tests: rewrite SparkJdbcInputHandlerTest decision cases;
