This is one of the bugs found by an LLM in the can-an-LLM-oneshot-a-fore-app experiment.
The LLM tried to inline an instance, like actual humans did (and discovered its many caveats) in #343, #256, #284 and likely even more.
I did see Claude load the CLAUDE.md file. Consider adding an AGENTS.md (that symlinks to the CLAUDE.md) that links to a new USAGE.md that is also linked to from the README. In there add these caveats so both LLMs and humans can easily figure out what's wrong when they run into this issue.
